Cookie Policy
How vinoralexiq uses tracking technologies to deliver better financial awareness resources across Australia
Look, we're going to be straight with you. This site uses cookies and similar tracking tech. Most websites do. But we're not fans of those policies that hide behind legal jargon and hope you won't read them.
This document explains what we track, why we track it, and how you can control it. Last updated March 2025 to reflect current practices.
What Actually Happens When You Visit
When you land on vinoralexiq.com, small text files get stored in your browser. These files help the site remember things about you between visits. Some are necessary for basic functionality. Others help us understand how people use the site so we can make it better.
We've been refining our approach since we launched, and in 2025 we're working with a pretty minimal setup compared to most financial education platforms. That's intentional. We only track what actually helps us serve you better.
Types of Tracking We Use
Essential Cookies
These keep the site working. They handle your login state, security tokens, and basic navigation. You can't disable these without breaking core functionality. They expire when you close your browser or after 24 hours, whichever comes first.
Functional Cookies
These remember your preferences – things like whether you've dismissed certain notices or which layout view you prefer. They make repeat visits smoother. Stored for up to 12 months unless you clear them manually.
Analytics Cookies
We use these to see which articles get read most, where people get stuck, and what content actually helps. The data is aggregated. We're not tracking individuals. These stick around for 26 months to show trends over time.
Marketing Cookies
Honestly, we're pretty light on these. They help us understand if people found us through search, social, or direct links. No creepy retargeting here. Active for 90 days, then they expire automatically.
What We Actually Learn From This Data
The analytics tell us which topics resonate with Australian audiences. For example, our content about first home buyer schemes in Queensland gets way more engagement than general savings tips. That helps us focus our resources.
We also track navigation patterns. If lots of people bail out halfway through an article, that's a signal the content isn't working. We've rewritten probably a dozen pieces in early 2025 based on that kind of feedback.
- Page views and time spent on specific articles about financial planning
- Which internal links people actually click versus which get ignored
- Search terms used within our site to find relevant content
- Device types and screen sizes to optimize mobile experience
- Geographic data at city level to tailor regional financial information
- Referral sources to understand how people discover our resources
Third-Party Tracking Technologies
We don't hand your data to dozens of partners. But we do use a couple of external services that come with their own tracking. Google Analytics is the main one. They have their own privacy policy, which frankly is longer than this entire document.
If you're hosting content through certain embedded tools or maps, those services might drop their own cookies too. We try to minimize this stuff, but sometimes the functionality is worth the trade-off.
How to Control Cookies in Your Browser
Every modern browser lets you block or delete cookies. The button above handles non-essential tracking on our site specifically. But if you want to go nuclear and block tracking everywhere, here's how to do it in the major browsers:
Fair warning – blocking all cookies will break some website functionality. You'll probably have to log in repeatedly, and personalized settings won't save. That's just how the web works right now.
What Happens When You Reject Cookies
If you click the decline button above, we'll immediately delete any non-essential cookies already stored. Then we'll remember your preference using a small essential cookie (ironic, but necessary). The site will still work fine for reading content.
You won't get personalized recommendations. We won't remember which articles you've already read. And we won't be able to track how you navigate the site. But all the core content remains accessible.
Data Retention and Your Control
Different cookies have different lifespans based on their purpose. Essential session cookies die when you close the tab. Preference cookies last up to a year. Analytics data gets anonymized after 26 months and then aggregated into general trend reports.
You can request deletion of any data we've collected about your visits by emailing contact@vinoralexiq.com. We'll process that within 14 days. Keep in mind this only affects data we control directly – not information held by third-party services like Google Analytics.
Under Australian privacy legislation, you've got the right to know what we've stored and request corrections if it's inaccurate. Though honestly, cookie data is pretty basic stuff. There's not much to correct.
Updates to This Policy
We'll update this document when we change how tracking works on the site. That might happen if we add new analytics tools, remove old ones, or adjust retention periods. Major changes get announced via our blog and email newsletter.
The date at the bottom shows the last revision. We don't change this daily. Maybe once or twice a year at most, unless there's a significant shift in how we handle data.
